He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
