He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
