He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he feareth 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
