He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 You neglect. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
