The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to the deniers, 10 Those who deny the Day of Judgment 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 Then it will be said: 'this is that which ye were wont to belie.' 17 However, the records of the deeds of the virtuous ones will certainly be in Illiyin. 18 And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is? 19 A record of good deeds written. 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things): 23 You will recognize in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 a wine whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray. 32 Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 as they (recline) upon their couches and gaze (around them). 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
