The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 So announce to them a painful punishment~ 24 Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end. 25
