The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)? ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
