The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
