The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the heaven is split asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And return to his people in happiness. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What is the matter with them that they do not accept faith? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a painful punishment~ 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
