The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing. 15 So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
