Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
