Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you received the news of the Enveloper? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
