Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden. 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
