Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions ranged 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
