Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
