Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
