Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets set forth 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
