Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 labouring, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
