Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 therein a running fountain, 12 raised couches, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
