Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
