Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 The night as it advances, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
