Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
