Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
