Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And by ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
