Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter among My servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
