Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
