Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
