Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
