Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
