Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
