Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the particular dawn. 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
