Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
