Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
