Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 in which you are now living 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
