He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him you attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
