Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
