The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
