Al-Balad

The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful

۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
