The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
