Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
