Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
