The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
