He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
