The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
