The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
