The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
