The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
