The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
