The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
