The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
